“The course was incredibly interesting and stimulating. The professor is very engaging and she transmits the material very effectively. She answers even the silliest questions with a simile and often a laugh, and her answers help us to better understand the language and the culture.”

"Kaku sensei is always available for students to ask questions, and would frequently walk around during group work to talk to each person and see how they were doing. She seems genuinely involved in students' lives and is passionate about the subject matter. Definitely one of my favorite teachers this semester!"

“I find the lectures stimulating. Kaku-sensei is a very good teacher and she really tries very hard to make sure we understand the material. She gets very excited and is clearly a dedicated teacher. I like how she takes the time to teach us not only about Japanese language but she also adds in information about Japanese culture which is very interesting. Thank you!”

"Out of all my instructors this term Keiko sensei has by far been the most helpful to my academic career, she's quick to give a response to a student's concern for the materials covered in class both in and outside of class time. I look forward to learning under her instruction for the spring term of 2010."

“I love this course. I was lucky to have sensei two semesters in a row. She is a very good professor. This class is very engaging and fascinating. I feel like I’ve learned a lot. It’s very useful & well taught. It makes a big difference when you have a good prof. . Learning a new language is not easy, but when you are interested & engaged & have a good teacher, it makes it so much easier & makes students more successful in learning. I love all of the content, especially learning new things & learning about things in Japan.”

"Keiko-sensei taught our son Japanese language for a year when he was 5 years old at OJLS (Ottawa-Japanese language school). Our son was nervous coming in the class but Keiko-sensei welcomed our son with a warm smile. Her lesson was carried out in relaxed atmosphere and we were comfortable leaving our son in the class.
Keiko-sensei taught our son authentic proper Japanese and it was easy for very beginner learners of Japanese to understand. Our son always said that “I like Keiko-sensei because she is sweet and she makes sure that I understand what is taught in class”. Keiko-sensei made sure that our son learn Hiragana alphabet which is the very base of the Japanese language. She also made her class enjoyable by providing various materials that keeps our son motivated to keep learning Japanese. I remember our son was looking forward to come the class every week.
Our son obtained ‘Distinction’ in Japanese Language Exam in GCSE(General Certificate of Secondary Education)in the UK last year. We believe that what Keiko-sensei taught our son made it possible to obtain ‘Distinction’ in the Japanese language exam and we are grateful for this. If you are learning Japanese, we strongly recommend Keiko-sensei who is experienced and can be trusted. "

GCSE(General Certificate of Secondary Education)

"We have known Keiko-sensei for many years. She taught our son at the Ottawa Japanese Languauge School for two years. She did an excellent job of giving him a good foundation in Japanese, and an interest in the language. Although it has been many years since he has had formal Japanese education, this early grounding has helped him to maintain his ability."

Keiko-sensei taught our daughter Japanese for 2 years at the Ottawa-Japanese language school (OJLS) starting in 2004. Because it was our daughter’s first school experience, we were grateful that Keiko-sensei welcomed her and made sure she was comfortable in class. Moreover, Keiko-sensei paid special attention to our daughter whose first language was not Japanese.
Our daughter used to say that she was looking forward to Keiko-sensei’s class because she is welcoming and makes language learning fun. Thanks to Keiko-sensei who is very good with children, our daughter was kept motivated to learn Japanese. Our daughter is now a teenager and she admires Japanese culture and life in Japan. Because she wants to brush up more in her reading and writing in Japanese, she is going to go to Japanese school in this coming fall. We wish it was Keiko-sensei’s class. If you want to learn Japanese and/or improve your Japanese skill, you are lucky to have Keiko-sensei as a teacher.
